Esports Nations Cup Postponed to November 2027 Amid Regional Uncertainty

Esports Nations Cup postponed to November 2027 in Riyadh
The Esports Foundation has postponed the inaugural Esports Nations Cup from November 2026 to November 2027.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The Esports Foundation (EF) has postponed the inaugural Esports Nations Cup from November 2026 to November 2027, citing an ongoing assessment of the wider regional situation and consultations with key stakeholders. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Riyadh and is expected to bring together national teams and esports stakeholders from more than 100 countries and territories.

  • The inaugural Esports Nations Cup has been moved from November 2026 to November 2027.
  • EF cited regional uncertainty and the need to provide stability for teams, publishers, partners and fans.
  • Existing ENC Development Fund commitments to National Team Partners will remain in place.
  • EF will continue work on qualification pathways and national esports ecosystem development ahead of 2027.

Esports Nations Cup Moves to November 2027

The Esports Foundation said the decision followed an assessment of the broader regional situation surrounding the tournament. Given the unprecedented international scale of the competition, the organisation said moving the event was considered the responsible option.

The revised timeline is intended to provide greater certainty for National Teams, game publishers, commercial partners and fans while allowing EF to deliver the competition under the conditions and standards envisioned when the tournament was established.

More Than 100 Countries and Territories Involved

The Esports Nations Cup has already secured official partner status across more than 100 countries and territories spanning every continent. The competition is designed to bring leading esports players together across multiple game titles under national teams.

According to EF, the tournament is intended to complement the existing esports ecosystem rather than replace existing competitions. Its objectives include creating new opportunities for athletes, supporting national esports development and developing new forms of fandom through international competition and national pride.

Saudi Arabia Remains Ready to Host Major Events

EF said Saudi Arabia remains fully capable of hosting major sporting and entertainment events, with large-scale events continuing as planned. The postponement therefore reflects the circumstances surrounding the inaugural ENC rather than a withdrawal of Riyadh as the intended host location.

The foundation said hosting the tournament in Riyadh in November 2027 remains part of its commitment to the competition and its long-term ambition.

ENC Development Fund Commitments to Continue

The postponement will not affect existing ENC Development Fund commitments made to National Team Partners. EF said the development fund and related ecosystem programmes will continue during the extended preparation period.

The organisation will also maintain its work with publishers, National Team Partners and other stakeholders. Partners will be engaged directly regarding the revised timeline and the transition towards the inaugural competition in 2027.

Esports Foundation CEO Says Ambition Remains Unchanged

“The decision to postpone the Esports Nations Cup was not taken lightly,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation.

Reichert said the response from National Team Partners, publishers, players and esports communities demonstrated the potential of the tournament. He said the foundation wanted the inaugural event to be delivered under the right conditions and at the level envisioned for the competition.

He also reiterated that the organisation would continue investing in National Team Partners, working with publishers and developing national esports ecosystems during the postponement period.

Qualification and Competition Details to Be Revised

Over the coming weeks, EF plans to work with National Team Partners, publishers and other stakeholders to clarify the revised competition calendar. The discussions will also cover qualification pathways and other consequences of shifting the tournament to 2027.

The postponement gives the foundation additional time to prepare for an international competition involving a large network of national teams, players, publishers and partners while continuing development programmes already established around the ENC.

Esports Nations Cup’s 2027 Roadmap

The inaugural Esports Nations Cup is now expected to take place in Riyadh in November 2027. While the competition’s date has changed, EF said its commitment to the tournament and the national esports ecosystems being developed around it remains unchanged.
