The 22-year-old Frenchman won 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 to claim the biggest title of his career and end France’s 12-year wait for a Masters 1000 champion.

Arthur Fils wins maiden Masters 1000 title

Tiafoe levelled the match by taking the second set 6-1, setting up a deciding set after the momentum had shifted sharply in his favour.
Fils dominates the deciding set
Fils regained his composure immediately in the final set and returned to the aggressive tennis that had earned him the opening set. His forehand again became a major weapon as he took control of the rallies and prevented Tiafoe from mounting another comeback.
The Frenchman completed a 6-0 deciding set after missing two match points before converting his third opportunity. The victory gave him his fifth ATP Tour title and his first at Masters 1000 level.
Fils reflects on hard work and setbacks
After the victory, Fils said the title carried special significance because of the training, sacrifices and injury setbacks he had experienced. He also acknowledged that he had lost focus during the second set before regaining his composure.
