The Yamaha YZF-R2 is priced between Rs 2.30 lakh and Rs 2.53 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant. Bookings are already open for a refundable token amount of Rs 10,000, while customer deliveries are set to begin in September 2026.

Yamaha R2 Gets New 204cc Engine
The Yamaha YZF-R2 is powered by a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. The motor generates 26.1 bhp of power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque.
The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and comes with a slip-and-assist clutch as standard. Yamaha has combined the new powertrain with a new chassis as part of its focus on reducing weight.
Lightweight Chassis Helps Yamaha R2 Stand Out
Weight reduction is one of the key features of the new motorcycle. Yamaha says the chassis weighs more than 2 kg less than the R15 chassis while retaining its rigidity.
The complete motorcycle tips the scales at 149 kg. Yamaha claims this makes the YZF-R2 the lightest motorcycle in its segment, giving the new model a distinct positioning among entry-level supersport motorcycles.
Yamaha R2 Design and Features
The YZF-R2 follows the design language associated with Yamaha’s R-series motorcycles. It gets a full fairing with layered bodywork, sleek LED lighting and DRLs, along with a sculpted fuel tank and sharp tail section.
The motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels and uses inverted front forks with a rear monoshock. Braking hardware includes a 282mm front disc along with a rear disc brake.
Colours and Quickshifter
Yamaha is offering the R2 in five colour options: Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Gray, Matte White Pearl, Racing Blue and Metallic Gray. The Metallic Gray option is reserved for the top-end variant.
The Mid and M variants receive a quickshifter as standard, according to the launch information. The top-end version also gets the special Metallic Gray finish and updated graphics.
Yamaha R2 Positioned Above the R15
The new motorcycle expands Yamaha’s R-series presence in India beyond the R15. The R15 was introduced in India in 2008 and has crossed one million units in sales, according to Yamaha.
Yamaha had also previously offered the R3 in India, although that model has since been discontinued. The new R2 therefore adds another option for buyers seeking a motorcycle positioned above the R15.
Yamaha’s Growth Plans in India
At the launch event, Yamaha Motor India Chairman Hajime Aota said the company recorded 41% year-on-year growth during the first half of 2026. The company also plans to target further growth during the festive season.
Yamaha said it wants India to become a hub for international exports. The company also reported that its R15, MT-15 and XSR 155 recorded 59% year-on-year growth during the first half of 2026.

Yamaha has confirmed that deliveries of the YZF-R2 in India will begin in September 2026. With bookings already open, prospective buyers can register their interest ahead of the start of customer deliveries.
