Weekly Market Wrap: Sensex Gains 405 Points, Nifty 50 Rises 0.8%

NEW DELHI, India — Indian equity markets ended the week on a positive note on August 7, extending their gains for a second straight week. The Nifty 50 advanced 187.05 points, or 0.8%, while the BSE Sensex gained 404.53 points, or 0.5%, with PSU banks, metals and select auto stocks leading the broader market higher.

State Bank of India Reports Lowest NPA Ratio in Over Two Decades in Q1 FY27 as Slippages Improve

State Bank of India (SBI) reported a strong improvement in its asset quality for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, with the country’s largest lender recording its lowest non-performing asset (NPA) ratio in more than two decades. The bank also posted lower slippages and improved profitability during the April-June quarter, reflecting healthier loan performance and stronger balance sheet fundamentals.
