Gold price today: Yellow metal slips from seven-week high

Gold prices eased during Monday’s morning session as profit booking weighed on the precious metal after its recent rise. Spot gold was down 0.10% at around $4,337 per troy ounce.

Market participants are also watching upcoming US inflation data, which could provide clues about the Federal Reserve’s future approach to interest rates. Changes in expectations around US monetary policy can influence the attractiveness of non-yielding assets such as gold.

Crude oil prices also remained in focus, with Brent crude rising for a third consecutive session and moving to around $84 per barrel. The Indian rupee was relatively steady at ₹95.23 against the US dollar during Monday morning trading.

Gold price outlook: Key support and resistance levels

According to the outlook provided by Manoj Kumar Jain, Director at Prithvi Finmart, gold experienced an upside breakout last week and could retain strength in the coming sessions. However, the metal is expected to remain volatile as global market factors continue to shift.

What factors influence gold and silver prices?

US dollar movements

The US dollar is one of the major influences on precious metals because gold and silver are internationally priced in dollars. A stronger dollar can make these metals more expensive for buyers using other currencies, potentially weighing on demand.

Interest rates

Interest-rate expectations also affect precious metals. Gold and silver do not generate interest or dividends, which can make them relatively less attractive when interest rates are high. Lower rates can increase their appeal as alternative assets.

Inflation

Inflation remains an important factor for gold because investors often consider the metal a store of value when purchasing power is under pressure. Silver can also benefit from inflation concerns, although its price has additional industrial influences.

Geopolitical and economic uncertainty

Wars, financial instability, trade conflicts and economic downturns can increase demand for assets perceived as safe havens. Gold is particularly sensitive to such shifts in investor sentiment, while silver can experience sharper price movements.

Supply and demand

Jewellery, central-bank purchases, investment products and technology contribute to gold demand. Silver has a broader industrial role, including applications in electronics, solar panels and electric vehicles, alongside jewellery and investment demand.

What to watch in the gold and silver market

Investors will closely monitor US inflation data, movements in the dollar and crude oil prices, as well as geopolitical developments. These factors could determine whether the recent upside momentum in precious metals continues or gives way to further volatility.

For Indian buyers and investors, domestic prices will also reflect international metal prices and currency movements. The city-wise rates provided above represent the August 10, 2026 figures supplied for this report.
