NEW DELHI, India — Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday launched 25 new Atal Canteens in the national capital, taking the total number of outlets under the scheme to 100. The expansion came on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with the Delhi government saying the canteens will provide nutritious meals for ₹5 to workers and families in need.

Atal Canteens in Delhi reach 100 outlets

The latest expansion completes the Delhi government’s target of establishing 100 Atal Canteens. The scheme was launched on December 25, 2025, on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The programme aims to make affordable and nutritious meals available to people who need them. With 25 additional outlets now launched, the network has reached the planned figure of 100 canteens across the capital.

₹5 meals for workers and needy families

According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the 100 canteens are expected to provide meals to approximately 1 lakh labourers and needy families every day. Each meal is available for ₹5 per plate.

Gupta linked the initiative with Vajpayee’s vision of Antyodaya and described the programme as an effort centred on service, dignity and nourishment.

Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates 25 new outlets

Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the 25 newly launched Atal Canteens from Timarpur. BJP leader Manoj Tiwari and Delhi minister Ashish Sood were also among those present at the ceremony.

Gupta said the completion of the 100-canteen network represented the fulfilment of a commitment made to the people of Delhi.

“A promise made to Delhi is now a service dedicated to its people.”

In a separate post, the Chief Minister said the canteens would provide nutritious meals to nearly 1 lakh workers and families in need every day for ₹5.

Atal Canteen scheme began in December 2025

The Delhi government launched the Atal Canteen scheme on December 25, 2025. The launch coincided with Vajpayee’s birth anniversary, while Sunday’s expansion was held on his death anniversary.

The scheme provides nutritious meals at ₹5 per plate. The government has now completed its stated objective of establishing 100 outlets in the capital.
