Manav Suthar is set to return to Warwickshire after India’s Test series against Sri Lanka.

Manav Suthar is set to return to Warwickshire for the final four matches of the County Championship season after completing India’s upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. The Indian left-arm spinner previously made an impact for the club earlier this season, taking 11 wickets in two Championship appearances.

Manav Suthar to rejoin Warwickshire

Suthar has been named in India’s squad for the forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka but is expected to return to Warwickshire once those matches are completed. He will feature in the club’s final four County Championship fixtures of the season.

The left-arm spinner played two games for Warwickshire earlier in the campaign and claimed 11 wickets, including a five-wicket haul. His performances added to an impressive first-class record, with Suthar now having 147 wickets from 32 matches.

Will Young also returns to Warwickshire

Warwickshire will also bring back New Zealand batter Will Young for the final six County Championship fixtures. Young previously represented the club in three matches last season, when he averaged 53.

His return is expected to add experience to Warwickshire’s batting line-up during an important stage of the Championship campaign.

Warwickshire remain in County Championship title race

Warwickshire, the 2021 County Championship winners, remain firmly in contention for another title. The club is currently five points behind the top position in Division One, making the closing fixtures particularly important.

The return of Suthar and Young gives Warwickshire additional options as they attempt to challenge for the championship during the final phase of the season.

Warwickshire welcome Suthar and Young back

Warwickshire Performance Director James Thomas said the club was pleased to bring both players back after their previous contributions. He highlighted the importance of adding quality at a stage when Warwickshire remain involved in the title race.

“We’re very pleased to welcome both Will and Manav back to the Bears after both players made a real impact when they were last with the Club.”

Thomas said Warwickshire had already played good red-ball cricket during the season and believed the returning players could strengthen the squad at a crucial point in the campaign.

He also pointed to Young’s experience as an important addition to the batting order, particularly following the end of Beau Webster’s time with the club for the season. Regarding Suthar, Thomas highlighted the spinner’s ability to influence matches with the ball while also contributing valuable runs.

Suthar brings strong first-class record

Suthar’s earlier spell with Warwickshire demonstrated his ability to make an immediate impact in County Championship cricket. His 11 wickets in two matches, including a five-wicket haul, provide the club with an experienced spin option for the closing stages of the season.

With Warwickshire only five points off the top of Division One, the return of Suthar and Young could prove significant as the club looks to maintain its challenge for another County Championship title.
