Tata Steel Q1 Results: Profit Rises 15% to Rs 2,318 Crore, Revenue Climbs 14%

Tata Steel Q1 results: Tata Steel reported a 15% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit attributable to owners for the quarter ended June 2026, supported by higher revenue and improved operating performance. Net profit rose to Rs 2,318 crore from Rs 2,078 crore in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.
The steelmaker’s revenue from operations increased 14% year-on-year to Rs 60,794 crore in Q1, compared with Rs 53,178 crore in the same quarter last year. Sales and income from operations stood at Rs 60,412 crore, up from Rs 52,744 crore in Q1FY26.
Tata Steel Q1 Results: Revenue and Profit Performance
Tata Steel’s June-quarter performance showed improvement across several key financial measures. Total income increased to Rs 61,027 crore in Q1FY27 from Rs 53,467 crore in the year-ago period.
Other income, however, declined to Rs 233 crore from Rs 289 crore a year earlier.
Profit before the share of profit from joint ventures and associates, exceptional items and tax rose 31% year-on-year to Rs 4,087 crore from Rs 3,119 crore.
The company’s share of profit from joint ventures and associates stood at Rs 96 crore, compared with Rs 80 crore in the same quarter of the previous year.
As a result, profit before exceptional items and tax increased to Rs 4,183 crore from Rs 3,199 crore in Q1FY26.
Profit Before Tax Rises 25%
Tata Steel’s profit before tax after accounting for exceptional items increased 25% year-on-year to Rs 3,838 crore in the June 2026 quarter. The figure stood at Rs 3,067 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The company reported total exceptional items of Rs 345 crore during the quarter, higher than the Rs 132 crore reported in the same period last year.
Exceptional Items in Q1
The exceptional items reported by Tata Steel during the quarter included restructuring, redundancy and other provisions of Rs 318 crore.
The company also recorded a provision for impairment of non-current assets amounting to Rs 37.25 crore, while a fair value gain on non-current investments stood at Rs 10 crore.
For comparison, Tata Steel’s total exceptional items were Rs 340 crore in the March quarter.
Tata Steel Expenses Increase in June Quarter
Total expenses increased to Rs 56,940 crore in Q1FY27 from Rs 50,347 crore in the year-ago quarter.
Cost of materials consumed rose to Rs 20,186 crore from Rs 18,028 crore. Purchases of stock-in-trade also increased, reaching Rs 5,182 crore compared with Rs 3,948 crore in Q1FY26.
Quarter-on-Quarter Performance
While Tata Steel’s financial performance improved compared with the same quarter last year, the company recorded a sequential decline in both revenue and net profit.
Revenue from operations stood at Rs 60,794 crore in the June quarter, compared with Rs 63,270 crore in the March quarter. Net profit attributable to owners also declined from Rs 2,965 crore in the March quarter to Rs 2,318 crore in Q1FY27.
The quarter-on-quarter comparison therefore shows that the company delivered year-on-year growth despite a softer performance compared with the immediately preceding quarter.
