Census 2027 introduces online self enumeration facility for Tamil Nadu households

Census 2027 Self Enumeration has introduced a new digital facility that allows residents in Tamil Nadu to complete their household details online before government officials visit their homes. For the first time in India’s Census process, citizens will get the option to submit information themselves through an online portal, making the data collection process more convenient and technology-driven.

Under the self-enumeration system, households can register online, verify their mobile number, mark their house location on a digital map, complete the required questionnaire and receive a unique Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID). This ID will be shared with the Census official during the physical verification visit. 0

Census 2027 Self Enumeration Process Begins in Digital Format

India’s upcoming Census is moving towards a hybrid model where citizens can provide their details online while traditional door-to-door visits by enumerators will continue. The self-enumeration option is designed to give residents more flexibility and reduce the time required during household visits.

According to official Census information, residents can access the Self Enumeration portal, log in using their mobile number, identify their location on the map, fill household details, submit the information and generate their SE ID. 1

How Tamil Nadu Residents Can Complete Self Enumeration Online

The online Census self-enumeration process involves several simple steps:

1. Registration and Mobile Verification:
Residents need to access the Self Enumeration portal and register using their mobile number. A verification process is completed through mobile authentication.

2. Select Location and Mark Home on Map:
After login, users have to provide their location details and mark their residential address on the digital map.

3. Fill Household Questionnaire:
Residents need to answer questions related to their house and household information. The form collects details required for the Census process.

4. Submit Form and Receive SE ID:
After checking all information, users can submit the form. A unique Self-Enumeration ID is generated after successful submission, which needs to be provided to the Census enumerator during the verification visit. 2

Who Can Complete Census Self Enumeration?

The self-enumeration facility is available for households that want to provide their Census information online before the enumerator arrives. People who are unable to complete the online process can still participate through the regular door-to-door enumeration system.

The online facility is an additional option and does not replace the traditional Census process. Enumerators will continue visiting assigned areas to verify and complete data collection. 3

Why India Is Introducing Digital Census Process

The digital self-enumeration system aims to make Census data collection faster and more convenient. By allowing citizens to enter their own information, the process can improve participation and reduce dependency on manual form filling.

The Census process will continue using both digital technology and field-level verification to ensure wider coverage across households.

Self Enumeration ID Will Help During Verification

Once a household completes the online form, the generated Self-Enumeration ID becomes an important reference during the visit of Census officials. Residents can provide this ID to the enumerator, who can use it to confirm the submitted information.

This system allows citizens to complete the questionnaire at their convenience while maintaining the official verification process.
