Jackson Koivun celebrates after winning the 3M Open 2026 PGA Tour event at TPC Twin Cities.
Jackson Koivun secured his maiden PGA Tour title with a record-breaking victory at the 3M Open 2026.

Jackson Koivun 3M Open 2026 created one of the biggest stories on the PGA Tour this season after the 21-year-old secured his maiden PGA Tour title by winning the 3M Open. Playing in just his third professional tournament, Koivun produced a composed final-round performance to defeat world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by three shots at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.

Jackson Koivun Wins First PGA Tour Title

Jackson Koivun closed the tournament with a brilliant five-under-par 66 to finish at a tournament-record 25-under 259. The young American never allowed the pressure to affect his game despite constant updates from spectators about Scottie Scheffler’s impressive charge earlier in the day.

Speaking after the victory, Koivun admitted he could hear fans repeatedly shouting that “Scottie’s coming,” but said he focused only on his own game and trusted the golf that had put him in contention throughout the week.

Scottie Scheffler’s Late Charge Falls Short

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler produced one of the best rounds of the final day, firing a superb seven-under 63 to climb into contention. However, having started several groups ahead of Koivun, Scheffler could only wait and hope the leader would make mistakes.

Koivun remained calm under pressure, avoiding any bogeys during the final round and denying Scheffler another comeback victory.

The runner-up finish marked Scheffler’s fifth second-place result of the 2026 PGA Tour season. His only victory this year remains The American Express, which he won at the beginning of the campaign.

Tournament Record at TPC Twin Cities

Koivun’s winning total of 25-under-par 259 established a new tournament record at the 3M Open. The youngster entered the final round holding a three-shot lead after an outstanding third-round 61 and successfully converted that advantage into his maiden PGA Tour title.

His victory also highlighted his consistency, as he completed the final two rounds without recording a single bogey despite the challenging conditions and temperatures nearing 36 degrees Celsius.

Key Par Save Changed The Tournament

One of the defining moments of Koivun’s victory came on the ninth hole. After finding the bunker with his approach shot, he calmly rolled in a crucial par-saving putt.

The young golfer later described it as the biggest putt of the tournament because it preserved his lead and gave him confidence heading into the back nine.

Koivun explained that he had seen the live leaderboard beside the green and knew missing the putt would have reduced his advantage significantly.

Scottie Scheffler Praises Golf’s Rising Stars

Despite missing out on the title, Scheffler praised the new generation of golfers making an immediate impact on the PGA Tour.

The world No. 1 said modern college golfers are arriving on the professional circuit better prepared than ever before, adding that young talents like Jackson Koivun are capable of competing for titles from the very beginning of their careers.

Strong Performances Across The Leaderboard

Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman, Chandler Phillips and Denny McCarthy shared third place after all four players finished the tournament at 20-under par.

Although several experienced professionals remained in contention throughout the week, none could match Koivun’s remarkable consistency over all four rounds.

Winning a PGA Tour event in only a third professional appearance is an extraordinary achievement, and Koivun’s triumph instantly establishes him as one of golf’s brightest emerging stars.
