CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026 conducted for compartment students across India
The CBSE successfully conducted the Class 12 Supplementary Examination 2026 on July 28 for around 1.63 lakh compartment students across India.

CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) successfully conducted the CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Examination 2026 on July 28 for students who were placed in the compartment category after the declaration of the Class 12 board examination results. Around 1.63 lakh students appeared for the examination across various examination centres in India, hoping to improve their academic record and qualify for higher education admissions without losing an academic year.

CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026 was conducted in a single shift with different timings depending on the subject. The examination took place under strict security arrangements, and the board once again implemented stringent guidelines regarding prohibited items inside examination halls. Students were required to carry only their admit card, school ID and permitted stationery items while electronic gadgets remained completely banned.

CBSE Conducts Class 12 Supplementary Exam Across India

The supplementary examination gives students another opportunity to clear subjects in which they could not secure passing marks during the regular board examinations. Every year, thousands of students appear in the compartment examination to avoid repeating an entire academic session.

This year’s examination was conducted peacefully across the country. According to CBSE, approximately 1.63 lakh compartment candidates registered for the examination after the Class 12 board results recorded an overall pass percentage of 85.20 percent.

School authorities and examination centres ensured smooth conduct of the examination by following all CBSE guidelines regarding student verification, attendance and security procedures.

CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026 Timing

The board scheduled the examination in different time slots depending on the nature of the subject.

  • Most Core Subjects: 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM
  • Vocational Subjects: 10:50 AM to 1:30 PM
  • Skill & Selected Elective Subjects: 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Candidates were advised to report well before the reporting time to complete verification and security checks before entering their examination rooms.

Strict CBSE Exam Guidelines Followed

CBSE Supplementary Exam Guidelines 2026 remained similar to the regular board examinations. Candidates were not allowed to carry mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, calculators or any other electronic gadgets inside the examination hall.

The board warned that possession or use of any prohibited item would be treated as an unfair means (UFM) case. Students violating the rules could face cancellation of their examination along with disciplinary action under CBSE regulations.

Only transparent stationery items, admit cards and valid identity documents were permitted inside the examination centres.

Why the Supplementary Examination is Important

The supplementary examination plays a crucial role for students who narrowly missed passing one or more subjects during the main board examination. Instead of waiting for an entire year, eligible candidates get another opportunity to improve their result within the same academic cycle.

Students who successfully clear the compartment examination become eligible for admission into universities, engineering colleges, medical institutions and other higher education programmes without delaying their academic journey.

CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Result 2026 Expected Date

CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Result 2026 is expected to be declared in August 2026. Although the board has not announced an official date yet, previous trends indicate that the results are generally released within a few weeks after completion of the examination.

Students will be able to check their updated marks online using their roll number, school number and admit card credentials through the official CBSE result portal once the results are announced.

After clearing the compartment subject, candidates will receive an updated marksheet showing their revised pass status. Marks obtained earlier in practical examinations and internal assessments will remain valid and will not be conducted again.

What Happens After the CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Result?

CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Result 2026 will determine whether students have successfully cleared the compartment subject and become eligible for higher education admissions. Candidates who pass the supplementary examination will receive an updated marksheet from CBSE. The revised marksheet will reflect their new pass status, while the practical and internal assessment marks secured during the main board examination will remain unchanged.

Students who qualify can immediately use the updated marksheet for admission to universities, colleges, engineering institutions and other higher education programmes. Many colleges also reopen or continue admissions after supplementary results are announced, allowing successful candidates to continue their academic journey without losing a year.

What If a Student Fails the Supplementary Exam?

CBSE Compartment Rules 2026 provide students with multiple opportunities to clear their compartment subject. Candidates who are unable to pass the July 2026 supplementary examination do not lose all chances immediately.

Under CBSE rules, students are allowed up to three attempts to clear the compartment subject.

  • First Attempt: July 2026 Supplementary Examination.
  • Second Attempt: March or April 2027 along with the next annual board examination.
  • Third Attempt: July or August 2027 supplementary examination.

If a student is unable to clear the compartment subject even after all three permitted attempts, CBSE declares the candidate as an “Essential Repeat”. Such students must appear again in all subjects during the next annual board examination.
