Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler pickup unveiled ahead of 2027 India launch
Mahindra has unveiled the Scorpio Lifestyler, with the mid-size lifestyle pickup planned for an India launch by April 2027.

NEW DELHI, India — Mahindra & Mahindra is betting that an underdeveloped demand for capable lifestyle pickups will create room for its new Scorpio Lifestyler in India, with the company planning to launch the mid-size pickup by April 2027 at an introductory price below Rs 19.79 lakh, ex-showroom.

  • Mahindra plans to launch the Scorpio Lifestyler in India by April 2027.
  • The pickup is expected to be priced below Rs 19.79 lakh, ex-showroom.
  • The model was first showcased as a concept in Cape Town in August 2023.
  • Mahindra is targeting lifestyle pickup markets across several international regions.

Mahindra sees untapped demand for Scorpio Lifestyler

The company believes Indian customers are increasingly looking for vehicles that combine strong capability with technology, safety and everyday comfort. Mahindra expects this combination to create an opportunity in the domestic mid-size lifestyle pickup segment.

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of the Automotive Division at Mahindra & Mahindra, said the company sees an opportunity to expand by offering customers greater choice in a segment where it believes demand remains underdeveloped.

“We see a growing appetite among customers for a vehicle that delivers authentic capability without compromising on technology, safety, comfort for everyday usability,” Gollagunta said.

He said Mahindra was investing in awareness, its dealer network and the ownership experience as it prepares to enter the category with the Scorpio Lifestyler.

Scorpio Lifestyler India launch planned for 2027

The pickup is scheduled to make its Indian debut by April 2027. Mahindra said prices in India would start below Rs 19.79 lakh ex-showroom, placing the model in the mid-size lifestyle pickup space.

The vehicle was first presented as a concept in Cape Town, South Africa, in August 2023. It will be sold as the Mahindra Lifestyler in international markets, while the Scorpio Lifestyler name will be used for India.

Three versions unveiled for global markets

Mahindra has presented three distinct expressions of the pickup: the Valley edition, Reef edition and Trail edition. The company said the model has been developed with a global market in mind.

The Scorpio Lifestyler was designed at Mahindra India Design Studio in Mumbai and developed at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. The company said the pickup is intended to serve customers across Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

Mahindra focuses on established international markets

Mahindra said it intends to continue strengthening its presence in right-hand-drive markets such as South Africa and Australia, where the company already has an established network and legacy.

Gollagunta also said Mahindra has performed well in certain left-hand-drive markets and smaller markets including Tunisia and Chile. The company plans to build on markets where it already has dealer ecosystems and products capable of gaining traction.

UK expansion remains under consideration

Mahindra is also assessing a potential entry into the United Kingdom, which Gollagunta described as the world’s largest right-hand-drive SUV market after India. However, he said the company would approach the market cautiously rather than rushing into an expansion.

The company is also examining opportunities in markets where existing products could be extended without requiring a completely new strategy. Indonesia was cited as one such opportunity, with Mahindra already performing in the commercial vehicle market there.

BE 6-SPORTEQ deliveries begin August 26

Alongside the pickup announcement, Mahindra introduced a new series of its electric SUV, the BE 6-SPORTEQ. Deliveries of the SPORTEQ are scheduled to begin on August 26.

The company also unveiled two additional versions based on the SPORTEQ philosophy: a top-of-the-line launch edition and the performance-oriented Formula E Freedom Edition.

What happens next for Mahindra?

Mahindra’s immediate focus will be on building awareness and preparing its sales and service ecosystem before the Scorpio Lifestyler reaches Indian customers. The company’s broader strategy combines expansion of its domestic portfolio with selective entry into international markets where it sees opportunities to compete effectively.
