Trump Announces Hamas Disarmament Framework as Middle East Tensions Escalate Over Iran, Gaza and Red Sea Security
Washington, August 1: US President Donald Trump announced that Hamas has agreed to a framework for phased disarmament as part of a US-backed proposal aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza. The development, reported by Fox News Digital, comes months after a US-brokered ceasefire and is unfolding alongside rising military tensions involving Iran, Israel and regional security in the Middle East.
While the proposed framework has been presented as a potential breakthrough, its implementation remains uncertain. According to the reports, Hamas has acknowledged the disarmament agreement in principle, but multiple conditions, negotiations and long-term commitments still need to be resolved before any permanent settlement or reconstruction process can move forward.
Proposed Gaza Framework Faces Significant Challenges
The proposed arrangement reportedly includes a phased disarmament process for Hamas alongside a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of Gaza. However, officials indicate that several political, military and humanitarian issues remain unresolved.
Israeli authorities have not yet given unconditional approval to the reported framework. According to reports cited by Fox News Digital, Israel continues to insist that any agreement must fully address its security concerns before implementation can begin.
The plan is expected to require extensive negotiations involving multiple stakeholders before any permanent ceasefire or reconstruction programme is finalised.
Lebanon Front Remains Active Despite Diplomatic Efforts
Military activity has also continued along Israel’s northern border. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its forces dismantled sections of an underground tunnel network beneath the Beaufort Ridge area in southern Lebanon.
According to the Israeli military, the tunnel system functioned as a command centre for Hezbollah’s Bader Unit and had reportedly been developed over nearly two decades. The IDF stated that the infrastructure had been used to coordinate attacks involving drones, anti-tank missiles and explosive devices targeting Israeli forces and civilians.
The military further said its personnel remain deployed in strategic areas, including the Ali Taher Ridge, and are prepared for both defensive and offensive operations if required.
US and Iran Exchange Sharp Warnings
Tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to rise after senior Iranian officials warned that any future attacks on Iranian infrastructure could trigger retaliatory strikes against Israeli facilities and American energy infrastructure across the region.
According to Iran’s state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency, a senior security official warned that Tehran had prepared extensive response plans if further military action were launched by the United States or Israel.
Separately, Mohsen Rezaei, a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, questioned the continued American military presence in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the strategic waterway should remain the responsibility of regional countries.
Rezaei also maintained that Iran continues to view itself as being in conflict with the United States despite previous diplomatic efforts.
White House Maintains Pressure on Tehran
The White House defended its current policy towards Iran, stating that President Donald Trump remains committed to diplomacy but would continue responding to attacks targeting American personnel, commercial shipping and regional stability.
“The United States signed an MOU with Iran and they broke it, shot at commercial ships, and killed American soldiers. President Trump is not going to stand by and allow this terrorist behavior to occur. Iran will continue to pay until they come to the table in, what President Trump deems, a meaningful way,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement quoted by Fox News Digital.
The statement followed reports suggesting possible military planning involving Iranian energy infrastructure, although no official confirmation of expanded operations has been announced.
Trump Signals Long Conflict May Continue
Speaking during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David, President Trump suggested the confrontation with Iran may continue for an extended period.
“They’ll get weaker. They’ll get a little stronger, maybe. But they’ll get weaker, and then they peter out,” Trump said while discussing the ongoing conflict.
The President also acknowledged that military confrontations could continue, saying the United States would remain prepared while expressing growing frustration over negotiations with Tehran.
Trump accused Iranian leaders of misrepresenting negotiations and said he was becoming less confident that diplomatic talks alone would produce an agreement.
Pentagon Highlights Military Operations
The Pentagon also released fresh comments regarding Operation Epic Fury, with Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell describing the campaign as evidence of the US military’s combat capabilities and joint-force coordination.
According to Pentagon officials, public affairs teams played an important operational role in documenting the campaign and communicating military developments during the conflict.
