IMD Issues Yellow Watch for Most Parts of Uttar Pradesh on August 4, Rain Likely Across Several Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Watch for most districts of Uttar Pradesh for August 4, indicating the possibility of rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across large parts of the State. While monsoon activity has become active again at the beginning of August, the weather department has not issued any Orange or Red Alert for any part of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the IMD’s forecast, many districts are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, with isolated spells of heavier showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. Central and eastern parts of the State are expected to remain under cloudy skies for much of the day, with rain likely at several locations.
Yellow Watch Signals Changing Weather Conditions
The IMD uses a four-colour warning system to communicate the severity of weather conditions. A Green alert indicates no weather warning, while a Yellow Watch advises people to remain aware of changing conditions as localised weather may affect normal activities. An Orange alert calls for increased preparedness, whereas a Red alert is issued when severe weather requires immediate action.
For August 4, the weather department has placed most parts of Uttar Pradesh under a Yellow Watch, advising residents to stay updated with official weather bulletins and take precautions if local conditions worsen.
Rain Expected Across Large Parts of the State
The forecast suggests that monsoon conditions will remain favourable for rainfall across much of Uttar Pradesh. Several districts are expected to receive light to moderate showers, while isolated places may witness thunderstorms and lightning during the day. Although rainfall is likely to be widespread, the IMD has not forecast extremely heavy rainfall across the State.
Weather May Change Quickly During the Day
The IMD has cautioned that weather conditions during the monsoon season can change rapidly. Bright sunshine in the morning may give way to dense cloud cover by the afternoon or evening, followed by sudden rainfall. Residents have been advised to monitor weather updates, particularly if they are travelling or working outdoors.
People living in open areas, agricultural fields or locations prone to waterlogging have been urged to remain alert and follow official advisories if thunderstorms develop.
Advisory for Farmers
The expected rainfall is likely to benefit standing Kharif crops, including paddy and maize, by improving soil moisture levels. However, farmers in areas already experiencing waterlogging have been advised to ensure proper drainage to prevent crop damage.
The weather department has also advised those working in agricultural fields to move to safe shelter immediately if lightning or thunderstorms begin.
Traffic May Be Affected in Major Cities
If rainfall occurs as forecast, traffic movement during the morning and evening peak hours may slow down in major cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Meerut, Bareilly and Moradabad. Motorists have been advised to drive carefully, especially in low-lying areas vulnerable to temporary waterlogging.
No Orange or Red Alert Issued
The IMD’s latest forecast offers some relief as no Orange or Red Alert has been issued for Uttar Pradesh on August 4. While heavy rainfall is not expected on a widespread scale, localised rain, thunderstorms and lightning may still affect several districts.
Residents have been advised to keep track of official weather updates and avoid remaining in open spaces if thunderstorms develop. Authorities have urged people to exercise caution as weather conditions may change quickly during the active monsoon period.
