Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected in some areas, with the weather department warning of possible waterlogging and flooding.

The IMD expects fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Saturday. Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are also likely to see widespread rain as the weather system continues to affect northern areas.
Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in east Uttar Pradesh and west Rajasthan. Parts of east Rajasthan could receive very heavy rain at isolated locations, increasing the possibility of localised disruption.
Odisha, Bengal and Bihar remain under rain threat
Eastern India is also expected to receive widespread rainfall. Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are among the regions likely to experience significant rain.

Northeast to see continued wet conditions
The northeastern states are likely to remain wet, with isolated heavy rainfall forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya as well as other parts of the region.
The combination of heavy rain and thunderstorms could create temporary travel and local infrastructure disruptions in vulnerable areas.
Western and peninsular regions also likely to receive rain
Widespread rainfall is forecast over Konkan and Goa, while parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat are also expected to receive showers.
In southern India, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka are likely to experience heavy rainfall on August 8. The IMD has also warned that isolated locations could receive very heavy rain.
Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are possible over parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, according to the weather department’s forecast.
IMD issues advisory for fishermen
The weather department has advised fishermen against venturing into several sea areas because of adverse weather conditions. The advisory covers waters along and off the coasts of Oman, Karnataka and Kerala.
The warning comes alongside the broader forecast for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, with authorities urging caution in areas vulnerable to weather-related disruptions.
Delhi-NCR hit by torrential rain
Friday’s rainfall already caused major disruption across Delhi and the National Capital Region. Severe waterlogging affected several locations, while traffic movement slowed on a number of important routes.
South Delhi’s MB Road was among the worst-affected stretches. Near the Air Force Station, floodwater reportedly reached close to four feet, leaving vehicles stranded and severely affecting traffic.
Several motorcycles and autorickshaws stalled after entering flooded sections of the road. Air Force trucks were also deployed to help movement through some inundated stretches.
Major Delhi routes affected
Traffic remained slow on several key roads, including ITO, Patel Road, Rohtak Road, Wazirabad Road, Kirti Nagar and Shaheen Bagh. The Delhi-Jaipur Highway and areas near Badarpur Border Metro Station also faced disruption.
Flooded subways and submerged stretches of road added to commuter difficulties across the capital region, highlighting the impact of intense rainfall on urban mobility.
