Man Arrested Outside Trump’s California Golf Course After Carrying Concealed Firearm, Investigation Underway

A 38-year-old man was arrested outside Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, after authorities allegedly found him carrying a concealed firearm near the property, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The incident has prompted a multi-agency investigation involving the US Secret Service, the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies to determine whether the suspect posed any threat to US President Donald Trump.
According to CNN, citing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, federal agents first reported a suspicious individual on the golf course property on Sunday (local time). The arrest came as President Trump was travelling aboard Air Force One to California, where he was scheduled to attend a Republican National Committee dinner at the golf club on Tuesday evening.
Suspect Allegedly Observed Monitoring Security Activity
The sheriff’s department identified the suspect as Jeanine John Taele of Downey, California. Investigators alleged that Taele had been taking photographs and recording videos around the golf course while appearing to monitor security-related activities in the area.
Authorities said deputies later arrested the suspect on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition. The department also confirmed that Taele is under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in connection with a separate robbery case.
Federal authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident as investigators seek to determine the suspect’s intentions and whether any additional criminal offences may have been committed.
Secret Service Examining Possible Threat
The US Secret Service has joined the investigation to assess whether the suspect represented any threat to President Trump. According to CNN, a federal law enforcement source said investigators have not found any current indication that the individual was planning an attack against the President.
However, officials stressed that the investigation remains active and that authorities are continuing to review evidence collected during the inquiry. Law enforcement agencies have not ruled out additional investigative steps while examining the suspect’s activities before the arrest.
Search of Residence Leads to Additional Recoveries
According to Fox News, investigators later executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, where they recovered several additional items. Authorities reportedly seized an illegally modified AR-style rifle, body armour, high-capacity magazines, ammunition and notebooks containing what investigators described as “concerning statements.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also said detectives assigned to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force conducted the search because of what officials described as the “potential security implications surrounding the incident.” During the operation, investigators additionally recovered a .45-calibre pistol, radio signal devices and more ammunition.
Federal Agencies Continue Joint Investigation
The investigation has expanded to include multiple federal agencies as authorities continue reviewing evidence collected during the arrest and subsequent search operations. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the US Secret Service are working alongside local law enforcement to determine whether any federal offences may have been committed and whether additional charges are warranted.
US Attorney Bill Essayli confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. In a post on X, he said his office, together with the FBI’s Los Angeles field office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), is examining the available evidence before deciding on any further legal action.
“This is an active investigation. My office, along with @FBILosAngeles and @LosAngelesATF, is reviewing the evidence and will provide more information when possible,” Essayli said.
Authorities Say No Credible Threat Identified
Despite the discovery of firearms and other items during the investigation, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said investigators have not identified any credible threat to surrounding communities. Officials nevertheless described the case as an example of why suspicious activity reported near protected locations is treated with urgency by law enforcement agencies.
Authorities emphasised that rapid coordination between local police, federal investigators and specialised security agencies played an important role in responding to the incident. The investigation remains focused on establishing the suspect’s actions, intent and any potential security implications connected to the case.
Trump Scheduled to Visit California Venue
The arrest occurred shortly before President Donald Trump was scheduled to appear at a Republican National Committee dinner at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes. According to the ANI report, Trump was travelling aboard Air Force One to California when authorities publicly announced the arrest.
The timing of the incident prompted the involvement of the US Secret Service, which is responsible for the protection of the President and routinely assesses any security-related incidents occurring near locations associated with presidential travel or official events.
Investigation Remains Active
Officials have not announced whether additional charges will be filed against the suspect, and investigators continue to analyse evidence recovered during the searches. Law enforcement agencies are expected to determine whether any of the seized materials are relevant to the ongoing inquiry.
While authorities have stated that no immediate threat has been identified, the case remains under active investigation. Federal and local agencies are continuing to coordinate their efforts as they examine the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s presence near the golf course and the items recovered during the investigation.
The incident underscores the heightened security measures that accompany presidential movements and demonstrates the close cooperation between local, state and federal agencies in responding to potential security concerns near protected sites.
